• Vatnsmyri is the old city airport of Reykjavik which in time will be transformed into a vibrant and innovative urban neighbourhood. For a competition in 2007 VHP made a poetic plan, inspired by the landscape, climate and culture of Iceland.

The program, comprising universities, hi-tech companies, a bus station, restaurants, leisure and housing, will on the north side be covered with a continuous landscape of moss and grass, like a traditional turf hut.

The sheltered south side has an open character and is as colorful as the existing city center. The main runway will be converted into a "lava strip", a heated outdoor area with public functions, connecting downtown Reykjavik with the thermal beach.
